Iron of ironies and Japanese sewing.

My Union Jack iron – made in France – posing beside the Cinderella sewing machine on the little corner of Scotland* desk.

I was ironing while sewing dress no. 17 from this Japanese sewing pattern book.

Once you get over the shock of being an XXXL, the patterns are easy to follow with great diagrams. You should’ve seen my sewing teacher’s face, though, when I turned up with it 2 weeks ago…now she is a convert, happy to have learned a new technique for lining a sleeveless bodice, and another for making dress pockets.
