Ballerina Tulip

Some garden plants are just so marvellous it’s difficult to know why you don’t just find them planted everywhere. Sixteen years of gardening on clay soil in a tough tough climate and I can vouch for this tulip being the one.

It even has a faint scent. It doesn’t need replanting every year. Its blooms last about six weeks, their beauty changing day by day as the petals seem to lengthen and stretch towards the sun but you’ll not find it lolling unhappily like some tulips do. What’s more it’s colour combines so well with the fresh greens of Spring that I actually find myself looking forward to getting home just to see how the Ballerinas are today.
