Morning walk: pretty pretty bird

A very handsome yellowhammer bravely stayed put in the hedge and eyed me as I passed.

Yellowhammers were on the radio as I drove home listening to The Verb (BBC Radio 3). Ian Rawes was on talking about old forgotten sound-words. He played a spine-tingling montage of archived 1940’s London street sounds and spoke movingly of how our forefathers might have given more importance to sounds than we do today. His website.
