Beach Boys and Mad Men

“I may not always love you…”

Do you recognise this excellent snatch of song lyric?

What a way to open a love song!

Aside from the extraordinary brilliance and intricacy of the production on Pet Sounds (1966), the album also benefitted from the collaboration between Brian Wilson and his new friend young ad man Tony Asher. Imagine Asher inventing jingles for a living, meeting Brian Wilson and coming up with this wonder.

” I may not always love you, but ‘  long as there are stars above you, you’ll never need to doubt it, I’ll make you sure about it.”
